5 days is the sweet spot if you want to see both Cairo and Luxor without rushing. You'll spend the first 2 days at the Pyramids and Egyptian Museum, then take a 1-hour internal flight to Luxor for 3 days exploring Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, and Hatshepsut. We add one optional sunrise hot-air balloon over the West Bank. No Nile cruise on this version — that needs 7+ days.

Common questions about this Egypt itinerary

Why fly Cairo to Luxor instead of taking the train?

The flight is 1 hour vs 10 hours by train. On a 5-day trip we use the flight to keep two full days of sightseeing in Luxor instead of losing one to travel.

Is a hot air balloon worth it?

If you're already in Luxor at sunrise, yes — it's one of the most photogenic experiences in Egypt. About $120-150 per person for the standard ride.

Can I add Aswan to this 5-day trip?

Not realistically — Aswan adds 2 to 3 days minimum. If Aswan matters, look at our 7-day Classic itinerary instead.
