Answers to the questions most travelers ask before picking a trip length.
How many days do I need to see Egypt?
7 days is the standard answer for first-time visitors — enough for Cairo, the Pyramids, a Nile cruise, and Luxor. 10 days adds Alexandria, Abu Simbel, and a slower pace. 14 days lets you do Egypt + Jordan or add the Western Desert. Less than 5 days only works for Cairo + a single second city.
Should my Egypt trip include a Nile cruise?
Probably yes if you have 7+ days. The 4-night cruise from Aswan to Luxor covers the Nile temple corridor (Kom Ombo, Edfu) which is awkward to reach by hotel-based travel. Skip the cruise if your trip is 5 days or under, or if you prefer hotels over cabin life.
When is the best time to visit Egypt?
October through April. Summer (May-September) is hot in Upper Egypt — temperatures of 35-45°C make Luxor and Aswan tough. December and January are cool and busy; October-November and February-March hit the sweet spot of comfortable weather and lower hotel rates.
Is Egypt safe for tourists?
Yes — the Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and Red Sea tourist corridors have been very safe for the past decade. Tourist police are present at all major sites, and our private vehicles avoid the small minority of areas where caution is warranted. Solo female travel is also safe in the standard corridor.
How much does an Egypt trip cost?
For a 7-day trip, expect $1,200-$2,500 per person mid-range, $2,500-$5,000 for 5-star and luxury cruises. A 10-day trip typically lands at $1,800-$4,000 mid-range and $4,500-$8,000 luxury. Excludes international flights and visa (USD 25 on arrival for most nationalities).
Should I travel with a tour or independently?
Most Egypt visitors find a small private tour easier than fully independent travel — entrance tickets, internal flights, hotel transfers, and licensed guides at sites add up to a lot of moving parts. Group package tours feel rushed; private custom tours give you the same logistics without the bus-loads.
Do I need a guide for the Pyramids and temples?
Not technically required, but strongly recommended. Egyptian Ministry-licensed guides bring 4,000 years of context that signage doesn't. They also know the best photo angles, when to skip the crowds, and how to negotiate the camel touts. Most of our packages include a private licensed guide.
Can I customize one of these sample itineraries?
Yes — every itinerary on this hub is a starting point, not a fixed product. We adjust hotels, swap cities, add or remove the cruise, change pace, and rebalance for family/honeymoon/luxury preferences. The Customize buttons send you to our planner with the original itinerary as the brief.
What's the difference between Cairo + cruise routes and hotel-only routes?
Cruise routes use a Nile boat as your hotel for 3-4 nights between Aswan and Luxor — convenient because you sleep where you sail. Hotel-only routes use Aswan and Luxor hotels with day-trips to temples — more space and amenities but more luggage moves. We offer both.
Should I add Abu Simbel, Alexandria, or the Western Desert?
Abu Simbel is worth it on any 8+ day trip (3 hours' drive each way from Aswan, optional pre-dawn). Alexandria fits 9+ day trips and gives you a Mediterranean coastal day. The Western Desert (Bahariya + White Desert) is a 12+ day adventure addition, requires camping, and is best for repeat visitors.
