The honest version: a full Cairo-Luxor-Aswan itinerary in July is hard work, and we will tell you so. It is entirely possible with dawn starts and air-conditioned everything, and the temples are emptier than you will ever see them again.
The easier version is coast-first. Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh or Marsa Alam for most of the trip, with a short, early-start Cairo leg for the pyramids and the museum.
This is peak season on the Red Sea because of European school holidays, so the pricing flips: cheap inland, busier and dearer on the coast.
Red Sea Day Tours
In July the coast is the trip and Cairo is the excursion. These are the days that fill a Red Sea week.

Family-Friendly Trips
July is European school holidays, so these are built around families: shorter days, pools, and no dawn starts unless you want them.

Air-Conditioned Nile Cruises
A July cruise is an indoor holiday with a moving view. Heavily discounted, and the temples are empty at dawn.

What July is actually like
- Peak European school-holiday season on the Red Sea coast.
- Temples are at their emptiest - a dawn visit is extraordinary.
- Air-conditioned cruises run and are heavily discounted.
- Midday sightseeing inland is not sensible. The itinerary works around it.
- Sea temperature around 28 C, ideal for families and first-time snorkellers.
What to pack for July
- The lightest clothing you own, plus long sleeves for sun cover.
- Serious sun protection.
- Swimwear and snorkel gear.
- A water bottle you refill constantly.
- A hat with a brim, not a cap.
Frequently asked
Is it too hot to visit the pyramids in July?
Not if you go early. We start Giza at opening, which is comfortable, and keep the afternoon free. Attempting the plateau at midday in July is a mistake.
Where should I go in Egypt in July?
The Red Sea - Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh or Marsa Alam - combined with a short, early-start Cairo leg. That gives you the icons without spending the week in the heat.
Are prices lower in July?
Inland, substantially. Coastal resorts are the exception because it is peak season for them.
Is a July Nile cruise bearable?
Yes, with the caveat that you will spend the hot hours inside. Cabins and lounges are air-conditioned and excursions are scheduled at dawn.
