Everything - the all-rounder month

This is the month where everything works at once. You can walk the Giza plateau in the morning, sail the Nile in the afternoon, and still swim in the Red Sea at the end of the trip without any of it being a compromise.

The 22nd brings the second of the year's two sun alignments at Abu Simbel. As in February it needs a pre-dawn start from Aswan and it needs booking ahead.

Crowds and prices both rise through the month as the autumn season builds, so the first half is usually better value than the second.

Frequently asked

Is October the best month to visit Egypt?

It is the strongest all-round month, alongside March and November. You can comfortably combine Cairo, a Nile cruise and the Red Sea without the January crowds or the July heat.

What happens on 22 October at Abu Simbel?

The same sun alignment as 22 February - sunlight reaches the inner sanctuary at dawn. It needs a very early start from Aswan, which we build into October itineraries.

Do I need to book early for October?

Yes for the Sun Festival dates and for cruises. The rest of the month has more availability than the winter peak.

Is the Red Sea still warm in October?

Yes, around 28 C - among the best swimming conditions of the year.
