Cairo is comfortable in the mid-twenties. Upper Egypt is a different story by late April, with the warmest afternoons pushing into the mid-thirties, so itineraries shift earlier in the day as the month goes on.
Sham El-Nessim falls on the Monday after Coptic Easter and is celebrated by everyone regardless of religion. Parks and the Nile corniche fill with families, and the atmosphere is one of the best things you can accidentally walk into.
It is a good month to combine the Nile with a few days on the Red Sea: the water is warming, the coast is not yet at summer prices, and it gives you a rest after the temples.
Nile Cruises in Spring
Small sailing boats suit April: shaded decks, and they moor at villages the larger cruisers pass by.
