What makes the difference on arrival
- Meet-inside matters. A driver who meets you in the hall, before the exit doors, saves you the entire gauntlet.
- Get a local SIM or eSIM first if you plan to use an app. Airport wifi is not something to depend on at midnight.
- Know your terminal. Cairo has several and they are far apart; tell your driver which one before the day.
- Have small notes. For a tip, and because "no change" is a common end to an otherwise agreed fare.
- Agree the fare before moving if it is not prepaid. Every transport dispute starts with a fare that was never stated.
How long it takes
Allow generously. Cairo traffic makes the same journey take very different times depending on the hour, and the airport sits well outside the centre. If you have a same-day onward flight or a sunrise start, build in far more margin than the map suggests.
