An island and four-reef system in the Strait of Tiran off Sharm El Sheikh, known for drift diving and abundant fish.
The current through the strait concentrates marine life, making Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon reefs among the most dependable dives in the northern Red Sea.
The strait is a narrow shipping channel, and several vessels have grounded on the reefs over the years; the wreck on Jackson Reef remains visible above water. The reefs themselves lie within the protected waters managed alongside Ras Mohammed.
Year round. Water is warmest June to October; winter diving needs a thicker wetsuit.
By boat from Sharm El Sheikh, typically 30 to 60 minutes each way on a half- or full-day trip.
